The Development Credit Co-operative Bank, Satara has been an integral part of the town for the past thirty years. The Bank was initiated essentially for the poor farmers who were in need of a reliable source which could provide them timely monitory help.
The new bank building has been designed in the commercial core area of Sadar Bazar, Satara. The bank has been an ideal example of development without forgetting its efficient and social past. The bank, is located on a busy street junction to avail maximum exposure to public. The design was initiated keeping in mind the function of the bank, the aesthetics as well as the micro - climate.
The concept of a pyramid has been used to freeze the vertical distribution of spaces. This distribution is done as per the administrative status of the officer in the ascending order. The head of the bank thus sits on the third floor accompanied by the conference and the guest rooms.
The layout provides maximum rationalization of movement and function. Activities like the auditorium and retail banking are provided on the ground floor. These activities encouraging maximum flow of people are curtailed at the lower floor itself.
The floor has been air-conditioned and is designed to receive minimum heat gain.
The design appears as an inviting public plaza with a big podium overlooking the streets. A series of steps helps people towards the main entrance. The design is conceived as a scooped cube having strong Northern and Eastern glazing. This helps maximum indirect sunlight inside the building avoiding any glare.
